Normand Lemay (Norm) and Griselda Sastrawinata-Lemay (Griz) are a husband-and-wife team currently working as feature animation artists at the Walt Disney Animation Studio (WDAS). In their free time, they enjoy creating art inspired by their three loves: art, food, and cats.
GRIZ
GRISELDA SASTRAWINATA-LEMAY (Griz), Associate Production Designer on “Wish,” is from Jakarta, Indonesia, where she lived for 15 years. She joined Walt Disney Animation Studios in 2015 and first contributed her talents as a visual development artist to the Academy Award®-nominated feature, “Moana.”
Her recent contributions as a visual development artist include leading the costume designs for the character Anna in “Frozen 2,” the distinctive opening to Oscar®-nominated “Raya and the Last Dragon,” inspired by shadow puppet traditions found throughout Southeast Asia, and designing costumes for the Madrigal family in the Oscar®-winning feature, “Encanto.” She also served as character design lead for the animated holiday featurette, “Olaf’s Frozen Adventure,” designing new costumes for the beloved “Frozen” characters and residents of Arendelle. Her additional credits include visual development on the Disney Animation feature, “Ralph Breaks the Internet.”
Some notable credits from Dreamwork Animation are Home, Penguins of Madagascar, How to Train Your Dragons 2, Me and My Shadow, the Croods, Kung Fu Panda: Legend of the Masters, Rise of the Guardians, Neighbors from Hell, Puss in Boots, the Three Diablos, Donkey Christmas Shrektacular, and Shrek Forever After. She was also part of the development team in concept movies such as Doodle, Zodiac, Time Crime, Trolls, Imaginary Enemy, American Girl, and Best Witch Ever (all working titles).
Sastrawinata-Lemay attended Art Center College of Design and graduated as valedictorian, Sekolah Pelita Harapan, Ora Et Labora, and St. Bellarminus. Disney Animation classics such as “Sleeping Beauty” and “Cinderella” inspired her to pursue a career in the industry.
NORM
Head of Story (HOS) at WDAS is a talented French-Canadian artist who relocated to Los Angeles in 2009 to realize his dream of becoming a Walt Disney Feature Animation team. Norm's passion for animation was sparked by classic animated movies such as Aladdin, video games, and French comic books.
Norm has made contributions to various Disney Classics such as "Wish," "Encanto," "Raya and The Last Dragon," Head of Story "Frozen 2," "Wreck-It-Ralph 2," Zootopia," "Moana," "Big Hero 6," "Frozen," and "Wreck-It Ralph." His outstanding work on the Tamatoa sequence in Moana earned him a nomination for an Annie Award. Norm is currently dedicating his efforts to an upcoming WDAS movie, the details of which have yet to be announced.
Before his successful transition to animation, Norm honed his skills in the advertising industry. After receiving his formal education in Animation from Sheridan College, he secured a coveted position at House Of Cool in Toronto. Norm's journey from advertising to animation is a testament to his versatility and determination. His expertise and artistic prowess have been instrumental in many creative projects, including animated pilots, television shows, feature films, and commercials. His vast knowledge and experience led him to a highly esteemed position in New York as a Story Artist for Blue Sky Studio's critically acclaimed animated feature, Rio.
